CLIMATE-SMART AGRICULTURE & SUSTAINABLE LIVELIHOODS

Building resilient food systems, empowering communities and creating sustainable livelihoods Agriculture is central to the livelihoods and wellbeing of many communities we serve. However, climate change, land degradation, unpredictable weather patterns, limited market access and rising production costs continue to threaten food security and household incomes. At CHAD, we promote climate-smart, sustainable and market-oriented agriculture that enables young people, women and smallholder farmers to adapt to climate change, improve food production and build sustainable livelihoods.

Our Focus Areas

🌱 Climate-Smart Agriculture
Promoting resilient crops, sustainable farming practices, soil health, water conservation and climate-adaptive technologies.

🌳 Agroecology & Environmental Restoration
Supporting agroforestry, biodiversity, land restoration and environmentally sustainable food production.

👩🏾‍🌾 Youth & Women in Agribusiness
Equipping young people and women with agricultural, entrepreneurship and business skills to create sustainable income opportunities.

💧 Food & Nutrition Security
Strengthening household and community food production while promoting diverse, nutritious and resilient food systems.

📱 Digital & Innovative Agriculture
Harnessing digital technologies, climate information and innovative solutions to improve agricultural decision-making and productivity.

🔗 Value Chains & Market Access
Connecting farmers and producer groups to markets, value addition, aggregation and sustainable agribusiness opportunities.

💰 Sustainable Livelihoods
Supporting diversified agricultural enterprises that strengthen household resilience, income generation and local economic development.

Our Targeted Impact

Through our agricultural programmes, CHAD aims to:

  • Reach 2,500 smallholder farmers with climate-smart agriculture knowledge and practical support.
  • Support at least 1,500 young people and women to participate in agriculture and agribusiness opportunities.
  • Enable 1,500 farmers to adopt at least two climate-smart or agroecological practices.
  • Support the establishment or strengthening of 300 youth- and women-led agricultural enterprises.
  • Link at least 500 farmers and producer groups to markets, buyers or value-addition opportunities.
  • Support 500 hectares of land under improved soil, water, agroforestry or other sustainable land-management practices.
  • Contribute to improved household food security, agricultural productivity and income generation among participating communities.
  • These are programme targets that will be refined through baseline assessments, partner priorities and available resources.

Measuring What Matters

CHAD is committed to measuring change beyond the number of people reached. We will track adoption of climate-smart practices, agricultural productivity, household income, food security, enterprise sustainability, market access and environmental outcomes.

Our monitoring, evaluation and learning systems will use baseline and follow-up assessments to demonstrate progress, strengthen accountability and continuously improve our programmes.

Our Approach

We connect agriculture, climate action, livelihoods and community wellbeing through locally led solutions. By working with communities, government, private-sector actors, research institutions and development partners, CHAD supports practical approaches that can be adopted, scaled and sustained locally.
